Below the Undercroft (Solo)
Below the Undercroft, Delve 7 - by Lilliaquil Nov. 23
After returning from our last descent, we abandoned the idea of emptying the kobold-guarded invisible chest. According to Rockmound (dwarf fighter 1/cleric 1), the other chests he encountered have been trapped. Given the chest is invisible, how could Dargo (dwarf thief 1) attempt to find any of the traps or even unlock it? Dargo tried to sway us with ludicrous suggestions such as covering the chest in flour. Anything he could think of to tempt us to free the kobold's of their charge. Instead, we decided to further map the area below the undercroft and wait to engage the kobolds until we could discern a way to make the chest visible without having to raid a pantry first. After all, there may be other hidden fortunes elsewhere in the depths.
Denby (human fighter 1) insisted that we wait for Gabriel, whom I believe is convalescing in the same church where Dal's body is being prepared for travel. But Dargo convinced Rockmound that we needed to map the area more thoroughly to understand all the risks.
Once again we returned to the depths and, with the aid of Dargo's map, we quickly found a new area. But that was when tragedy struck. No more than ten minutes from entering this cursed place, we rounded a corner and ran right into a band of orcs. As soon as they spotted us they sneered and drew their weapons. Denby immediately cut one down while Rockmound lashed out with his mace. Dargo and I launched darts over Rockmound's head and hit the orc that was barking orders. In the chaos I believe one of our darts may have struck Rockmound. The orc started to flee but Rockmound crushed the brute's skull. Unfortunately Denby was laid low then Rockmound fell as they were overwhelmed by orcs. Dargo, Barris, and I had no choice but to retreat. With a final look over my shoulder I could see the orcs dragging Rockmound and Denby around the corner, deeper into their chamber.
Orcs are known to be slavers, so there's a chance that Rockmound and Denby were not executed. We must keep hope alive.
Perhaps this Gabriel, about whom I hear so much, will help us formulate a plan to either rescue Rockmound and Denby or, at the very least, recover their bodies.
